This model makes a true spectacle of itself, showing off its 44.2mm midnight blue dial face and pure, solid 18kt white gold case and dial hands. This timepiece does not have any inferior materials or parts.

This Portuguese Perpetual Calendar Watch is pure luxury from the screw down crown to the transparent back. Featuring four sub dials, a power reserve indicator light, moonphase sub dial, and a plethora of additional time-keeping features underneath that scratch-resistant Sapphire crystal window, IWC has outdone itself on pure class and sophistication.

Power Source

This IWC model has a beautiful, Swiss made, self-winding Automatic movement. This movement is an IWC Calibre 51614; beats at 21,600 vph, and contains an incredible 62 jewels and has 168 of power reserve.

The Good

The midnight blue dial is absolutely stunning and complements the solid 18k white gold of the case. Even the dial hands are an elegant, leaf-shaped, polished white gold to complement the solid 18kt white gold case. The raised and polished Arabic numeral hour markings and dot minute markers are embossed with the same beautiful white gold. This is no fashion watch from the likes of Daniel Wellington, Michael Kors or Guess watches, but truly a piece of design and engineering excellence!

The black leather strap is made of alligator/crocodile leather and is secured with an 18kt white gold tang clasp. Completing the look are fixed white gold, polished bezel and lug tops, which make this IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar timepiece shine.

The Bad

There are no negatives to report with this timepiece. However, it is a 44.20mm case, which may sit too large on the wrists of men who typically purchase 40mm or 42mm sizes.

Highlights

The focus of this timepiece is tri-fold: The Perpetual Calendar, The Moonphase, and the Power Reserve Indicator. With four sub dials and a window displaying the year, this timepiece is certainly a beautiful example of time-keeping.

The date is indicated on the outside perimeter of the sub dial located at the 3 o’clock position, the month is indicated at the sub dial at the 6 o’clock position, and finally, the current year is displayed in full, 4-digit format, in a window between the 7 and 8 o’clock positions.

– Moonphase

The Moonphase is beautiful and a highlight feature. The moonphase can be found displayed at the sub dial at the 12 o’clock position. The disc is brushed white gold and midnight blue, and rotates beneath two windows on the dial. Mirror images of the moon as seen from the Northern and Southern hemispheres and which deviates from the moon’s actual progress by a mere 12 seconds per lunar period. Also included is a 29.5 day countdown until the new moon.

– Power Reserve Indicator

The Power Reserve Indicator is a great addition to this Automatic timepiece. There is an incredible 7 day Power Reserve on this IWC, as indicated by a hand at the centre of date sub dial located at the 3 o’clock position.

The functionality of this IWC Portuguese Perpetual Calendar timepiece is beyond reproach. There have been no major concerns of any kind regarding this model.
